Hemingway - July 2021

Each month we receive a selection of the best, hand chosen, cigars delivered to our door via Hemingway. This is what we got this month!

  1. Crowned Heads & Drew Estate - La Coalicion Corona Gorda

  2. Drew Estate - Herrera Esteli DeSocio

  3. Dunbarton - Dondurma Toro

  4. Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Toro by Drew Estate

  5. Plasencia - Alma Fuerte Sixto II Hexagon

Now for a little about each cigar from the Hemingway team!

As it is our 5th anniversary, I really smashed this one out of the park and selected my FIVE favourite cigars and lets not get the calculator out because the accountant will be unhappy...

Who would've imagined it, FIVE YEARS of delivering HEMINGWAY - I am absolutely humbled and gobsmacked at the same time!

To prove how awesome it has been, we have FIFTEEN of the original "The First Twenty" members still active today!

That is pretty damn impressive I feel, thank you to ALL of you though, HEMINGWAY truly redefined how CANTEROS.nz worked as a business and also gave me the outlet to go on my crazy hunts for rare cigars.

Crowned Heads & Drew Estate La Coalicion Corona Gorda

My absolute favourite co-lab to date

Drew Estate and Crowned Heads - could life get any better? These amazing Connecticut Broadleaf wrapped cigars are just amazing.

For me, I think its like a Liga No.9 had "relations" with a Le Careme...

Drew Estate Herrera Esteli DeSocio

Made ALL the way back in 2017, possibly 2016...

When I spotted these (again) I asked "original release" and the reply was "absolutely" so I just had to get them for this anniversary.

Yes, we have had these before in HEMINGWAY, but who can go past a 4 or 5 year old stick.

Set aside some time, don't be afraid to park this one till it warms up; it needs a solid 2+ hours of your attention and enjoyment!

Dunbarton Dondurma Toro

My favourite of all the Dunbartons...

Exclusive to Secreto Cigar Bar and the crazy bastard Ronnie, these have become my stand-out favourite of Saka's creations.

Named are a thick THICK rope-like Turkish ice-cream they are just that, thick and ropey smoke and just amazing!

Equadorian Habano wrapper, Mexican San Andres binder, Nicaraguan Criollo from Esteli, Criollo 99 Seco from Jalapa and USA Wisconsin Comstock fillers - make for one outstanding cigar!

Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Toro

Barrel Fermented...

Honestly, I couldn't go past the normal Pappy Van Winkle line when they came up, but then our supplier sent us the wrong ones - the RARE ONES!

So, I wasn't going to compain - in fact I ordered more and more!

They say these have "barrel bite" I don't know; all I know is you should grab a fine bourbon, sit back and damn well enjoy!

Plasencia Alma Fuerte Sixto II Hexagon

About as unique as you'll ever get...

What a mouthfull... a very uniquely box-pressed cigar and also one of my recent new favourite blends; the Alma Fuerte (Strong Soul) is a great medium-plus strengthed cigar.

The Nicaraguan Habano maduro wrapper lends a lot; but also the fact that the Plasencia family are one of the most respected tobacco farming family's in the world helps (clue - they keep all the good stuff for themselves).

Oh did I mention ALL the tobaccos are AT LEAST ten-years aged...
