Hemingway - December 2021

Each month we receive a selection of the best, hand chosen, cigars delivered to our door via Hemingway. This is what we got this month!

Crowned Heads Four Kicks Mule Kick LE 2020 Toro

Origin: Dominican Republic (E.P. Carrillo's Tabacalera Alianza factory) Wrapper: Nicaraguan Jalapa Habano Binder: Nicaraguan Filler: Nicaraguan longfiller tobaccos

This full-strength (hence its Mule Kick name) Limited Edition Nicaraguan puro (all tobaccos from Nicaragua) sure is a fantastic limited edition release.

For the first time released as a Nicaraguan puro, this cigar will deliver lots of molasses sweetness, pepper, spice & earth notes.

Drew Estate Herrera Esteli Limited Edition Lancero

Origin: Nicaragua (Drew Estate) Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano Binder: Honduran Habano Filler: Nicaraguan longfiller tobaccos

Medium-bodied lancero vitola with sweet, spicy and cedar wood notes - blended by Master Blended Willy Herrera.

These cigars were blended and rolled in 2020 for release mid-2021.

Foundation El Güegüense 5 Year Aniversario Perfecto

Origin: Nicaragua (Aganorsa) Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo Binder: Mexican San Andres Filler: Nicaraguan longfiller tobaccos

Only 10,000 cigars ever made - these were released by Nicholas Melillo (Nic'R'Agua) to celebrate his first 5 years in business by himself after leaving Drew Estate where he spent over a decade handling their tobacco operations.

This medium bodied cigar rolled at Aganorsa under Nicholas's careful watch is very similar to that of the famous Flying Pig's by Drew Estate.

A perfectly balanced cigar to represent I suspect the calming of Nicholas's passion in the cigar industry; a must try cigar!

J-R Cigar Pepperbox by Plasencia

Origin: Nicaragua (Plasencia) Wrapper: Nicaraguan Habano Binder: undisclosed Filler: Honduran & Mexican longfiller tobaccos

Named after a civil war era pistol that was comprised of multiple revolving barrels that shared a cenre axis; the Pepperbox is FOUR cigars rolled into one large cigar.

Plasencia are highly regarded for making unique vitolas, but this is a new one even for them - four cigars side by side wrapped in an outter wrapper.

All four cigars are reported to be their own unique blend, making it even more intriguing.

As I am yet to sample mine, I am awaiting for the perfect opportunity - you will just have to throw caution to the wind and try this very unique cigar at your own pace.

Viaje Honey & Hand Grenades Maduro The Shiv

Origin: Nicaragua (TABSA factory) Wrapper: Mexican (San Andrés Maduro) Binder: Nicaraguan Filler: Nicaraguan longfiller tobaccos

Many many years ago when these were first released (2013) they were an instant hit with myself and other kiwi aficionados.

Finally returning and now with the twist of an Mexican San Andrés wrapper, I honestly still think (through my slightly older brain) these taste as good as the original release.

Using rich Aganorsa-sourced longfiller tobaccos; this is by far a true standout cigar of 2021!
