Hemingway - February 2024

Each month we receive a selection of the best, hand chosen, cigars delivered to our door via Hemingway. This is what we got this month!

Ace Prime The Sergeant Robusto Gordo

Origin: Nicaragua (Tabacalera Pichardo)

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Corojo '99

Binder: U.S.A. Connecticut Hybrid

Filler: Nicaraguan (Esteli Ligero, Jalapa & Pueblo Nuevo Visos)

Back in 2022 I managed to score a box of these purely because of the name and desired size of the cigar; well I shared a few of them and soon got told to get MORE!

So we did and I got enough last year so we could hold some over for HEMINGWAY members to enjoy too.

Since then I've easily smoked a box of them, they are that good...  probably because Tabacalera Pichardo makes a lot of Crowned Heads cigars - in fact Crowned Heads and Ace Prime were partners for a while; but that's all ended now.

This short-fat cigar seems perfect for my evening work-shift; they're just a tasty tasty cigar.

Caldwell Blind Man's Bluff Cabinet Chico White Limited Edition Toro

Origin: Dominican Republic (Manufactura Rivas)

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano

Binder: Dominican Republic

Filler: Dominican Republic

This is the third release in the Caldwell Blind Man's Bluff Cabinet Limited Edition release.

All three cigars use the same "blend" of tobaccos, but produce three distinctly different flavours, which is quite puzzling.

It is something I have heard many times over the years; give three blenders the same tobaccos and you'll get three totally different cigars.

Seems crazy right, but just the placement change of the bunch can have an impact on the overall flavour; of course the wrapper and binder will still have a dominating affect to some degree.

What are your thoughts?  Which of the three did you enjoy the most?

diesel Disciple Torpedo

Origin: Nicaragua (Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A.)

Wrapper: Mexican San Andres Maduro

Binder: Ecuadorian Sumatra

Filler: Nicaraguan

This cigar is now available world-wide, it was originally released in 2021 as a TAA exclusive (Tobacconists' Association of America).

This is a dark, oily and very tasty cigar - full-bodied as you'd expect following in the usual style of diesel cigars made by A.J. Fernandez.

Foundation Cigars Charter Oak Especiales (new release)

Origin: Nicaragua (Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A.)

Wrapper: USA Connecticut Broadleaf or Shade

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Nicholas Melillo' has released two new versions of his highly popular Charter Oak line; Pegnataro (Shade) and Pasquale (Broadleaf) - they are named after his two Grandfathers.

You will receive either the Shade or Broadleaf version - done largely at random*

Both cigars are stronger than the original Charter Oak lines and much more refined with aged tobaccos in honour of his Grandfathers.

Only 500 boxes of 12 cigars of each wrapper variety were produced.

*Please see the bottom of this mailer regarding your desired preference for wrapper types....

Powstanie Connecticut Toro (new release)

Origin: Nicaragua (Fábrica de Tabacos Nica Sueño S.A.)

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut Seed

Binder: U.S.A. Pennsylvanian Broadleaf

Filler: Nicaraguan

These new Powstanie's are fast becoming one of my favourites!  A wonderful and to use that old cliche' "Not your Grandfather's Connecticut" cigar.

They even scored a 91 on debut at HalfWheel.com - so you know they must be good (haha).

But they are, they are bloody fantastic!
