Hey team, Don José here back with another review.

Today we have the

Sarzedas by J.C. Newman

If this is your first time here, my reviews rate each cigar on 10 factors and each factor gets a rating out of 10 giving me an overall out of 100. The 10 factors are: Construction, Draw, Burn, Flavour, 1/3 overall, 2/3 overall, 3/3 overall, Journey (how well it flows), Complexity & Value for money.

Overview

U.S. Patent Office records show that J.C. Newman first rolled Sarzedas cigars in 1900, known then simple as “The Aromatic Cigar.” Now over 125 years later, they have reintroduced it.

Handmade at the PENSA factory in Nicaragua, these cigars feature an Ecuadorian Shade wrapper, along with Dominican and Nicaraguan filler/binder tobaccos. They are marketed as a flavourful, smooth, and approachable smoke.

Details:

  • Size: Carona 5.5x43

  • Wrapper: Ecuadorian Shade wrapper

  • Binder: Dominican Republic and Nicaragua

  • Fillers: Dominican Republic and Nicaragua

let's get into the review.

First thoughts

This cigar has a bit of a vintage look to if for sure... it also kinda resembles a cheap knock-off from a Greek tobacco stand, but I'm going to try and not let that influence my smoking.

The Cold Draw:

Pretty much just overwhelmed with the sweet tip. Its not an aggressive sweet tip by any means, its actually quite nice, which i'm shocked to say. But its more of a vanilla sweet than a sugar, and subtile enough that I think once lit it wont be too in your face.

Construction

Construction is ok, couple of small wrapper blemishes but overall not bad.

Burn & Draw Burn and Draw are good, a little too much draw.

Flavour & Complexity Flavours of Wood, leather and nuts mostly, mixed with the vanilla sweet tip it sort of works, but also feels a bit like the tip is a cover up as it does on many tipped cigars.

Strength

Medium, 60%

Enjoyment / Journey This isn't a cigar for me really, but i'm not disappointed in it, it actually surprised me a bit in a good way.

Overall I would say this is a great introductory cigar, or even a nice morning coffee cigar for a more experienced smoker. Its not going to be the new staple in your humidor, but its worthy of a try and affordable enough to have a few on had for when you want something lighter.

I rate this cigar 89 points
