Hemingway - March 2024

Each month we receive a selection of the best, hand chosen, cigars delivered to our door via Hemingway. This is what we got this month!

Crowned Heads Le Patissier No.54 (2022)

Origin: Nicaragua (Tabacalera Pichardo)

Wrapper: U.S.A. Connecticut Broadleaf

Binder: Nicaragua Jalapa

Filler: Costa Rica & Nicaragua (Ometepe and Pueblo Nuevo)

This is the last Le Patissier cigar made at Tabacalera Pichardo; as the factory has now been taken over by Luciano Cigars and Crowned Heads have walked away.

As for the cigar, well, it is another showcase of what Crowned Heads has become famous for - amazing, complex medium-bodied cigars.

These were rolled back in 2021 and aged for a year post-production and released in 2022; this has made these a very smooth, silky cigar.

The entire Le Patissier range is now "regular production" as part of the move to NACSA (Nicaraguan American Cigars, S.A.). Crowned Heads has a large cache of their own tobacco inventory; so I'd imagine the move was fairly easy to complete after the breakdown of the relationship with Tabacalera Pichardo and Luciano.

Drew Estate Undercrown Sun Grown Gran Toro (2022)

Origin: Nicaragua (La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate)

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra

Binder: U.S.A Connecticut Habano

Filler: Nicaraguan

This was the second release in the Liga Undercrown range and is now sadly a part of history as Drew Estate killed the line off in 2023.

Also this is the highest rated of the Liga Undercrown range by Cigar Aficionado and rightfully so; this is a fantastic Sun Grown vitola; the use of the beefier U.S.A. Connecticut Habano adds that extra level of flavour and complexity.

There are a handful left in stock, once they're gone; they're gone sadly.

Fratello Navetta Inverso Pigtail (2022)

Origin: Nicaragua (Fabrica de Tabacos Joya de Nicaragua S.A.)

Wrapper: Nicaragua

Binder: Ecuadorian

Filler: Dominican & Nicaraguan

This was a little "extra" release from Omar de Frias of Fratello; made at Joya de Nicaragua (as are most of the Fratello's) this is a "inverse" of the original Navetta release.

When Omar first released this I chuffed "haha, what ever" - but then I smoked a few and went "okay mate, that's quite clever".

It is very clever and it is distinctly different from the Navetta - but of course you can be the judge if you wish to grab a Navetta (there's some left).

Either way, a great little cigar and perfect for a coffee and chilled morning!

Quesada Casa Magna D. Magnus II Primus BP (2022)

Origin: Nicaragua (Plasenca Cigars S.A.)

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Jalapa Sun Grown

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

This is the second release of the Casa Magna line (hence the II) - the first release was a rockstar release; so of course you do a second release.

These dark cigars are just delicious, blended by Master Blenders Manuel Quesada and Nestor Plasencia you'd expect nothing but a massive hit.

Enjoy, its a great movie cigar - I suggest either The Beekeeper or The Outfit, two movies I've watch a few times over the last month...

Warped Upper Realm Rothschild (2023)

Origin: Nicaragua (Agricola Ganadera Norteña S.A. (Aganorsa))

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Jalapa Corojo '98

Binder: Nicaraguan Corojo 2012

Filler: Nicaraguan

By far one of my favourite Warped' cigars - Upper Realm is a dark'ish complex Rothschild that I often smoke in the evening while working away on CANTEROS.nz.

These were a 200-chest release, there's a gamble for The Cigar Merchant haha!

A medium-plus Aganorsa rolled cigar and blended by Kyle, this is a great "after work" enjoyment.
