HVC Hot Cake 'Golden Line' review by Don José

Hey team, Don José here back with another review.

Today we have the

Hot Cake 'Golden Line' Laguito #4

by HVC

If this is your first time here, my reviews rate each cigar on 10 factors and each factor gets a rating out of 10 giving me an overall out of 100. The 10 factors are: Construction, Draw, Burn, Flavour, 1/3 overall, 2/3 overall, 3/3 overall, Journey (how well it flows), Complexity & Value for money.

Overview

Any yet again, we seem to be back with another really long named cigar.. haha, I feel like the names get longer every year.

The HVC Hot Cake line is known for releasing bold cigars. Their Golden Line Connecticut takes things on the milder side with an overall smooth, creamy profile and some touches of spice.

The Laguito #4 features a Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper over a nica/nica binder/filler. This is the first time the Hot Cake line has released a Connecticut Shade cigar.

I heard great things about this cigar from Grant The cigar Merchant, in a casual friendly conversation, in no way related to the sales of cigars for all you pesky MOH readers.

Details:

  • Brand: HVC

  • Size: 4 1/2 x 52

  • Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade

  • Binder: Nicaraguan

  • Filler: Nicaraguan

  • Factory: Fábrica De Tabacos HVC S.A

let's get into the review.

First thoughts

Well, It looks like a Connecticut Shade... which is not my go to as you most likely know by now, but other than that; its smooth to touch, no teeth. Construction looks good, couple of small spots but nothing to be concerned about. The Cold Draw has hints of Cream, Vanilla and cedar.

Construction

As mention, good overall construction. Fairly soft to touch and a little loose pack but again, nothing causing concern.

Burn & Draw Burn and Draw are both perfect. sharp burnline, plenty of think smoke.

Flavour & Complexity For a mellow smoke there is a lot going on here; Cream, Coffee, Mike Chocolate, Vanilla, a light spice and some sweetness.

Strength 62% - Mild - mid

Enjoyment / Journey A perfect early afternoon cigar, not very strong but with plenty of complexity and great flavours. Burn is fantastic and a good balance throughout.

Overall Overall, another fantastic HVC cigar, and in its favour (from my POV) its not your standard Connecticut shade, there is a lot more going on that meets the eye.

I rate this cigar 91 points!
