Quesada Oktoberfest 10th anniversary review by Don José

Hey team, Don José here back with another review.

Today we have the

Oktoberfest 10th Anniversary

by Quesada

If this is your first time here, my reviews rate each cigar on 10 factors and each factor gets a rating out of 10 giving me an overall out of 100. The 10 factors are: Construction, Draw, Burn, Flavour, 1/3 overall, 2/3 overall, 3/3 overall, Journey (how well it flows), Complexity & Value for money.

Quesada Oktoberfest is a small-batch seasonal cigar from Manuel Quesada - maker of Casa Magna and Fonseca.

Oktoberfest was specifically manufactured to pair with beer, which while a common drink to have with a Cigar, its never really the first thing that comes to mind for pairing.

It's been 10 years since the first release and Quesada is celebrating with Quesada Oktoberfest 10th Anniversary.

“We are more than excited to present this year’s Oktoberfest edition which in my opinion will be the best Oktoberfest cigar ever,” said Manuel “Manolo” Quesada Jr., president of Quesada Cigars, in a press release. “Feedback from customers attention to detail has brought us to this blend. It’s going to be great.”

Quesada used a combination of Dominican long-filler tobaccos and binder wrapped up inside a Mexican San Andres wrapper.

The 10th Anniversary is available in 3 sizes, Bavarian (Rubusto), Dan Boot (Torpedo) & Uber (Gordo) - This sees a bit of a change for the line as they are usually stumpy, fat perfectos. Today I am sampling the Torpedo.

Details:

  • Brand: Quesada

  • Size: Dan Boot (Torpedo)

  • Wrapper: Mexican San Andres

  • Binder: Dominican

  • Filler: Dominican

About the wrapper.

Mexican San Andrés is arguably as popular as Connecticut Broadleaf. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, it’s thick, naturally sweet, and most-often stalk cut prior to curing. In 1880, Cuban tobacco grower Alberto Turrent left his Cuba and moved to Mexico’s San Andrés Valley in Veracruz, the eastern side of the country on the Gulf of Mexico. He had Cuban tobacco seeds with him and planted what would become the first Mexican San Andrés tobaccos. Today, after 6 generations, the A. Turrent farms are still the largest producer of San Andrés wrappers in the world. The soil in Veracruz is volcanic and dense. It’s extremely humid. All of this contributes to the unique flavour of the San Andrés cigar wrapper.

let's get into the review.

First thoughts

Great looking stick, same classic band as the previous years but with the addition of the 10th anniversary second band. Lots of wood aroma and the cold draw gives hints of leather.

Construction

Generally a great construction. Not the best example I have seen of a torpedo in terms of rolling shape but nothing to complain about. nice and dense but without effecting the draw and it held its shape well to the end.

Burn & Draw Fantastic draw, slightly slow on the burn if i was to be picky but overall very good.

Flavour & Complexity Damn delicious! - leather, wood, earth, cocoa, coffee and pepper, the holy grail combo of flavours IMO.

Strength 60% - Medium

Enjoyment / Journey I have been lucky enough to sample I think 8 of the 10 releases of Oktoberfest and every single one has been a great cigar, this however is a new league for them.

Overall An amazing cigar and very much the best offing from Oktoberfest to date.

I rate this cigar 92 points.
