The Edge 20th Anniversary review by Don José

Hey team, Don José here back with another review.

Today we have the

The Edge 20th Anniversary

by Rocky Patel

If this is your first time here, my reviews rate each cigar on 10 factors and each factor gets a rating out of 10 giving me an overall out of 100. The 10 factors are: Construction, Draw, Burn, Flavour, 1/3 overall, 2/3 overall, 3/3 overall, Journey (how well it flows), Complexity & Value for money.

Overview

The Edge 20th Anniversary, debuted in 2022, 18 years after those first two wrapper options did. However, it was two decades after work on The Edge began, which is what the company says the 20th anniversary references.

Rocky Patel, the company’s founder, said he blended this cigar around a 10-year-old Ecuadorian Sumatra as the original The Edge used an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. Underneath that is a Honduran habano binder and fillers from Honduras and Panama.

Now those that know me well know I have quite a soft spot for Sumatra wrappers... and well ive always been a RP fan so im am very much looking forward to this cigar.

Details:

  • Brand: Rocky Patel

  • Size: Toro

  • Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra

  • Binder: Honduran habano

  • Filler: Honduras and Panama

The wrapper is also aged 10yrs on this cigar... which is a solid age for a release thats for sure. The RP website also has this cool little page about the manufacturing process - https://www.rockypatel.com/cigar-factories/how-a-cigar-is-made/ that is well worth a read.

About the wrapper.

Sumatra is a black tobacco leaf that was originally found in Indonesia, but the most popular version is Ecuador Sumatra. Used primarily as wrapper leaf, we love the colour, oil and spice found in this version.

let's get into the review.

First thoughts

Epic looking, dark, toothy wrapper! The band looks more in line with the 55 than the edge series to me.

The cold draw is intense! One of the most flavourful cold draws I can recall. It's a floral forward with a bit of spice and liquorice.

Construction

Construction is 10/10, perfect.

Burn & Draw To match the perfect construction this cigar has flawless draw and burn. Plenty of smoke, razor sharp burnline and no touch ups.

Flavour & Complexity This is one hell of a flavour bomb! The Floral and liquorice from the cold draw do continue throughout but with the addition of black pepper, leather, fruit, coconut, some peppermint and the list goes on! It's quite insane.

Yet somehow.. at the same time, it manages to blend these together and not come across confusing.

Strength 80% - Medium - Full

Enjoyment / Journey What an amazing cigar. The best I've had in a little while thats for sure.

Overall This is not to be missed! get your hands on some ASAP.

I rate this cigar 95 points!
